Parkersburg, WV (June 5, 2026) – Two firefighters were taken to a hospital late Wednesday night, June 3, after a firetruck overturned while heading to a reported structure fire in Parkersburg. The accident happened after a 9:55 p.m. call for a possible fire on 21st Avenue off Pike Street.
Fire officials said Engine 3 was responding when the truck reached the top of a hill, went into a sharp turn, and tipped onto the driver’s side. Both firefighters inside the vehicle had minor injuries.
Emergency units were sent to help the firefighters after the crash. Both were taken to a hospital and were cleared for release a few hours later into early Thursday morning.
Officials later said there was no actual structure fire at the original address. The report involved someone burning food.
The wreck remains under review as officials work with insurance representatives on the damage to the firetruck. We hope both firefighters continue recovering well.
What Details Are Often Reviewed After Emergency Vehicle Accidents?
Emergency vehicle accidents often require a close review of road design, speed, vehicle weight, and the type of maneuver being made before contact or rollover. Firetrucks are large, heavy vehicles, and their size can affect how they handle turns, hills, and narrow roads.
Investigators may also review weather, lighting, roadway grade, and whether the vehicle’s equipment or water load affected balance. Damage to the truck, tire marks, and final resting position can help explain how the vehicle tipped.
Medical records may show the extent of harm for those inside the emergency vehicle. Photos, driver statements, and vehicle inspections may also help create a clearer timeline and guide any repairs or safety reviews after the accident.
