Forestport, NY (June 8, 2026) – Two women were hurt on Saturday evening, June 6, in a head-on collision on State Route 28 in Forestport.
The accident happened at 6:51 p.m. just south of Pit Four Road. The report said 77-year-old Lucy Alpert of Sauquoit was driving a blue 2015 Subaru south on Route 28.
Alpert reportedly failed to keep right and moved into the northbound lane. Her Subaru then collided with a blue 2025 Subaru driven by 74-year-old Debra McCoy of Eagle Bay. Both drivers had non-life-threatening injuries. Alpert was brought to Upstate Hospital for hip pain, while McCoy was brought there for neck pain.
The vehicles had heavy damage and were removed from the roadway. The report said Alpert will receive a citation for failure to keep right at a later date. The review of the wreck remains ongoing as the final report is completed.
We hope both drivers continue to recover after this collision.
Head-On Collisions on Rural Routes Carry Serious Risks
Head-on collisions on rural routes can be especially dangerous because many roads have one lane in each direction with little space between opposing traffic. A small lane departure may place a vehicle directly in the path of oncoming drivers.
These roads may also include curves, hills, narrow shoulders, or limited lighting. Any of these factors may reduce the time a driver has to correct their position.
In two-vehicle cases, reports frequently review travel direction, lane placement, vehicle damage, and whether a citation is expected. Medical details may also help show how the people involved were affected. Even when injuries are described as non-life-threatening, pain in the neck or hip can still require hospital evaluation and follow-up care.
