What Is Typically Reviewed After a Head-On Collision?
Head-on collisions are among the most severe types of roadway crashes because the vehicles are often traveling in opposite directions at the time of contact. The combined force can result in extensive vehicle damage and a higher likelihood of fatal injuries.
When reviewing these collisions, investigators commonly examine vehicle positions, tire marks, roadway design, visibility, and weather conditions. They also look for evidence showing how and why a vehicle entered the opposing lane of travel.
Physical evidence from the roadway and the vehicles can help establish a timeline leading up to the collision. Investigators may analyze damage patterns, final resting positions, and other factors to better understand the sequence of events. These findings can provide a clearer picture of what occurred and help explain how a center-line crossing led to a fatal outcome.
