What Investigators Examine After Single-Vehicle Fatal Crashes
When a single-vehicle crash results in multiple fatalities, investigators typically focus on roadway conditions, driver behavior, and vehicle movement before the collision. Evidence such as skid marks, roadway curves, and shoulder conditions can help reconstruct how the vehicle lost control.
Vehicle condition is also reviewed to determine whether mechanical issues may have contributed. In addition, investigators may assess speed, visibility, and driver decision-making leading up to the crash.
Because multiple occupants were involved in this case, seat position and restraint use may also become part of the overall review. Even after the roadway reopens, investigators often continue collecting evidence to understand the full sequence of events.
