Why Lane-Change Crashes Can Lead to Rollovers
Lane changes are a routine part of driving, but they can become dangerous when drivers lack sufficient space or time to complete the maneuver safely. A vehicle entering an occupied lane may force nearby drivers to react suddenly, increasing the risk of losing control.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway after a side-impact collision, additional hazards can arise. Slopes, embankments, soft shoulders, and uneven terrain may contribute to a rollover, particularly at highway speeds.
In rollover cases, investigators often review vehicle positions, tire marks, roadway conditions, and the sequence of movements before the vehicles left the pavement. They may also examine whether roadway geometry or traffic conditions contributed to the chain of events. These details help establish how the vehicles overturned and why the resulting injuries were so severe.
