Riverside, CA (August 27, 2026) – Two 14-year-old boys were seriously hurt on Tuesday evening after a Lexus struck them while they rode an e-scooter and e-motorcycle in Riverside.

The collision happened around 7:45 p.m. near Mitchell Ave as the teenagers attempted to cross Arlington Ave. Police said an 88-year-old woman was driving a Lexus sedan into the intersection when the boys were struck.

Both teenagers were taken to a hospital with major injuries and were reported to be in extremely critical condition. Video from the site showed significant damage to the Lexus windshield and debris from the two smaller vehicles across the street.

The Lexus driver remained at the site, and it was unclear whether drugs or alcohol contributed. The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.

We are keeping the injured teenagers in our thoughts as they recover.

How Can E-Bike and E-Scooter Riders Reduce Crash Risks?

Electric bicycles and scooters can reach speeds that make sudden stops difficult, especially around intersections. Riders should follow traffic signals and signs and remain alert for vehicles entering or crossing their path.

Wearing a properly fitted helmet can help reduce the risk of serious head injuries. Bright or reflective clothing can also make riders easier for motorists to see, particularly during evening travel.

Riders should use designated bike lanes or paths when available and avoid weaving between vehicles. Maintaining a predictable path gives nearby drivers more time to react.

Young riders may benefit from additional safety guidance before using electric bikes or scooters in traffic. Learning local traffic rules, practicing controlled braking, and staying focused can help reduce risks.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
