How Entrapment Can Complicate Serious Traffic Collisions
Entrapment often occurs when a vehicle’s frame becomes heavily bent after a side-impact or head-on crash. Doors may jam shut, or parts of the vehicle may collapse inward, making it difficult for occupants to exit safely without assistance. In these situations, specially trained personnel may need to remove sections of the vehicle to reach the people inside.
T-bone crashes can be especially dangerous because the sides of most vehicles have less structural protection than the front or rear. The force of a side strike may also push a vehicle into another lane or nearby objects. Road closures are common in these situations because crews need sufficient space to assist those involved, remove vehicles, and clear debris from the roadway before traffic can resume safely.
