Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes crashes involving several vehicles at once?
These crashes often start with one vehicle slowing suddenly or losing control, giving following drivers too little time or space to stop before striking it or each other.
Why do these collisions turn into chain reactions?
Once the first impact happens, following vehicles may not have enough distance to brake safely, especially at higher speeds or in heavy traffic, so the crash spreads from car to car.
What should I do if I come upon a crash scene on the highway?
Slow down well before reaching the scene, turn on hazard lights, and move into a lane away from the wreckage if possible. Avoid stopping in a travel lane unless directed to do so, and watch for responders and debris.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Upper Macungie, PA
Anyone involved in a crash with several vehicles should get checked by a medical professional even if injuries seem minor at first, since impacts like rollovers can cause pain or symptoms that surface hours later. Take photos of vehicle positions and damage if it's safe to do so, and get contact information from anyone else involved. File or follow up on a police report, and keep records of any medical visits or vehicle repairs that result from the crash. If you're unsure how the crash is being classified or investigated, Upper Macungie Township police or the responding agency can usually provide a report number and status update.
