VACAVILLE, Solano County, Calif., Oct. 31, 2026 — At least one person died early Saturday morning, October 31, in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down all eastbound lanes of I-80 near Cherry Glen Rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was first reported shortly before 2:40 a.m. near Manuel Campos Parkway, east of Cherry Glen Rd, when a vehicle reportedly went off the roadway and left debris in the lanes. A caller relayed through OnStar said a semi-truck may have struck another vehicle, and good Samaritans told dispatchers more than ten vehicles had stopped to help before the CHP arrived. The agency said the crash eventually involved multiple vehicles, including a blue BMW sedan and a white Kia Forte, both reported with major front-end damage.
All eastbound lanes were blocked for several hours under a CHP SigAlert while crews worked the scene. An ambulance was called for injuries early in the response, and Vacaville Fire officials said a medic would also be examining the scene. The Solano County coroner's office responded and remained at the scene into the morning, and the CHP incident type was listed as a fatality. It was not immediately clear how many people died or whether anyone else was hurt.
By around 4:47 a.m., updates showed the number one lane had reopened, though other lanes remained closed as crews continued clearing wreckage and investigating. The cause of the crash, including what role the semi-truck played, has not been released. The CHP has not said whether speed or impairment was a factor.
Our sympathies are with the family of the person who lost their life.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can drivers share the road with trucks more safely?
Give commercial trucks extra space, avoid lingering in blind spots alongside or behind the trailer, and never cut in front of one before you have fully cleared it.
Does driver fatigue play a role in truck crashes?
Fatigue is a recognized factor in many truck collisions, especially during overnight and early-morning hours when drivers' alertness naturally drops.
What should I do after a crash involving a commercial truck?
Move to a safe location if possible, call 911, and let law enforcement document the scene; a formal investigation typically follows to determine what happened.
Why do trucks need so much distance to stop?
Their size and weight mean they require far more distance to slow down or stop than passenger cars, which is why sudden lane changes near a truck can be dangerous.
