Frequently Asked Questions
Does road surface make a difference in motorcycle safety?
Yes. Loose gravel, oil residue, uneven pavement and wet surfaces reduce tire grip far more for a motorcycle than for a car, since a bike balances on two narrow contact patches instead of four tires.
What gear actually helps reduce injury for riders?
A DOT-approved helmet, a reinforced jacket and pants, over-the-ankle boots and gloves all help absorb impact and reduce road rash and fracture risk in a fall or collision.
What typically causes motorcycle crashes like this one?
Common factors include another driver failing to see the motorcycle, left-turn or head-on encounters at intersections or narrow roads, speed, and misjudged distance between vehicles.
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries?
Riders have no frame, airbags or seatbelt around them, so a crash that a car occupant might walk away from can throw a rider onto pavement or into another vehicle directly.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Accident in Vacaville, CA
If you're involved in a motorcycle crash, try to move to a safe spot off the roadway if you're able, and call 911 even if injuries seem minor at first. Adrenaline can mask pain from fractures or internal injuries, so a medical evaluation soon after the crash matters even if you feel capable of walking around. Get the names and contact information of any witnesses, and request a copy of the police report once it's filed. Photograph the scene, both vehicles and any visible injuries if you're able to safely do so. Keep records of medical visits and any time missed from work, since these details can matter later even if they don't seem urgent in the moment.
