What Can Make Bicycle Crashes Serious?
People riding bicycles have limited protection when involved in a collision with a motor vehicle. The severity of injuries can depend on the vehicle’s speed, point of impact, roadway conditions, and whether the cyclist had protective equipment.
Crash reviews may examine traffic signals, lane positions, roadway markings, vehicle damage, and witness accounts. Nearby cameras may also provide information about the movements of the vehicle and bicycle before the impact; these details can help establish how the collision occurred and identify factors that may have contributed to it.
