Vienna Township, OH (May 19, 2026) – A 70-year-old man died following a head-on collision on Monday night along Warren Sharon Rd near Roy Rd in Vienna Township.

According to reports, the crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. Officials said Robert Pearce of Howland was traveling west on Warren Sharon Rd when his vehicle struck several mailboxes before colliding head-on with another vehicle. Both vehicles then went off the roadway following the impact.

Pearce and the other driver were taken to a hospital in Youngstown for treatment. Authorities confirmed Pearce later died from his injuries. The second driver underwent emergency surgery and was later reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators said neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Officials also stated that alcohol and drugs are not believed to have contributed to the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.

Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.

What Information Is Commonly Examined After a Head-On Collision?

Head-on crashes are often among the most serious roadway accidents because both vehicles may be traveling toward each other at considerable speeds. Investigators typically review lane positioning, vehicle damage, roadway markings, and driver actions before impact to better understand how the collision occurred.

When vehicles leave the roadway before or after a crash, investigators may also examine shoulder conditions, roadside objects, and possible steering corrections. Damage patterns can help determine the angle and force of impact.

Seatbelt use is another factor commonly reviewed after serious collisions. Safety restraints are designed to help reduce the risk of severe injury by limiting occupant movement during impact. Medical findings and vehicle data systems may also provide additional insight into the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
