Frequently Asked Questions
What is "dooring" and why is it dangerous?
Dooring happens when someone in a parked car opens a door into the path of an oncoming cyclist, often with little or no time for the rider to react. It can throw a cyclist into traffic lanes, which makes it especially dangerous on busier roads.
How can cyclists stay safer in traffic?
Riding with lights and reflective gear, staying predictable, using marked bike lanes where available, and avoiding roads with high-speed traffic at night can all help. Staying visible to drivers matters most in low-light hours like the overnight period when this crash happened.
What should a cyclist do after a crash with a car?
If possible, move to safety, call 911, and avoid moving an injured person unless there's immediate danger. Get medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, and try to get contact information for the driver and any witnesses before they leave.
Do cyclists have the same road rights as drivers?
In New Jersey and most states, cyclists generally have the same rights and responsibilities as other vehicle operators on public roads, including the right of way under normal traffic rules.
What to Do After a Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash in Voorhees, NJ
Anyone who witnesses a hit-and-run involving a cyclist should call 911 immediately and try to note details about the fleeing vehicle, including color, make, direction of travel, and any part of a license plate. If you're the one involved in such a crash, seek medical care right away, even if you feel capable of walking or moving, since some injuries aren't obvious right away. Report the incident to local police as soon as possible and provide any photos, video, or witness names you may have gathered. For residents of Voorhees and surrounding Camden County communities, local investigators rely heavily on tips from the public to identify vehicles and drivers who leave the scene, so even small details can matter.
