Why Motorcycle and Passenger Vehicle Crashes Often Lead to Injuries
Motorcycle accidents often cause injuries because riders have far less protection than people in passenger vehicles. Unlike cars or trucks, motorcycles do not have seat belts, airbags, or a surrounding frame that can absorb impact during a collision.
When a crash occurs, riders may be thrown from the bike or make direct contact with the roadway or another vehicle. Even at moderate speeds, this can lead to serious harm. Protective gear such as helmets, gloves, and riding jackets may reduce the severity of injuries, but they cannot eliminate the risk.
Roadway conditions also affect motorcycle safety. Uneven pavement, debris, or sudden lane changes can quickly create dangerous situations for riders. Clear visibility, safe following distance, and attentive driving from all road users help reduce the chances of these collisions.
