What Happens When Vehicles Cross the Center Line?
Routes connecting rural areas near North Saffold Road and Kaolin Road can see steady traffic with limited separation between directions. When crashes occur in Washington County, responders often focus on securing the roadway and assisting those involved.
Crossing the center line can lead to head-on or near head-on impacts, which are often more severe due to opposing traffic flow. These situations may happen due to distraction, fatigue, or sudden steering movements.
Two-lane roads without barriers rely on drivers maintaining proper lane position. When a vehicle drifts into oncoming traffic, there may be little time for either driver to avoid a collision.
