Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes crashes involving several vehicles at once?
These crashes usually start with one vehicle stopping suddenly, losing control, or colliding with another, triggering a chain reaction before following drivers can react.
Why do these chain-reaction wrecks happen so fast?
Traffic moving close together leaves little time for drivers further back to brake once the vehicles ahead collide, so the crash can spread through several cars in seconds.
What should drivers do if they come upon a crash scene on the road?
Slow down well before reaching the scene, move over if it's safe to do so, and watch for emergency crews, debris, or stopped traffic ahead.
What injuries are common in multi-vehicle crashes?
Injuries can range from cuts and bruises to broken bones, head injuries, and in more serious cases, life-threatening trauma, depending on speed and impact.
