West Barnstable, MA (April 1, 2026) – A morning van crash along Route 6 in West Barnstable sent six people, including several students, to the hospital.
The accident occurred around 8:16 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, on the westbound side near Exit 65. Emergency units arrived to find a passenger van with damage to multiple sides and the underside, resting against the Route 149 Emergency Responders Bridge, with its front end on top of a guardrail.
All six occupants had exited the van before crews arrived. Those involved were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation at the school’s request, and one student was reported to have a minor finger injury.
Crews worked to manage hazards at the scene by placing absorbent materials beneath the vehicle. The damaged van was later removed using a crane-equipped tow truck, and the area was cleared. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are keeping those involved in our thoughts as they recover.
Why Passenger Van Crashes Can Lead to Multiple Hospital Visits
Passenger vans are often used to transport groups, so several people may be involved in a crash. Even when injuries appear minor, it is common for everyone inside to be checked at a hospital to ensure there are no hidden issues.
The size and weight of these vehicles can affect how they handle on highways. Sudden movements or loss of control may lead to impacts with guardrails or other roadside structures. Damage to multiple sides of a vehicle can happen if it shifts or rotates during a crash.
Emergency responses may include additional precautions when several people are involved at once. This can help ensure everyone receives timely attention and that any potential hazards at the scene are addressed.
