WEST DAHLONEGA, Lumpkin County, Ga., Oct. 26, 2026 — A motorcyclist died on Saturday afternoon, October 24, after a crash involving a car on GA-52 near Auraria Road, the Georgia State Patrol stated. A Braselton driver was arrested in connection with the wreck.
Troopers responded to the intersection just before 4 p.m. to investigate a two-vehicle collision. An initial investigation found that a 2019 Toyota 4Runner, traveling north on GA-52, was turning left onto Auraria Road when it crossed into the path of a 2003 Triumph motorcycle traveling south. The motorcycle reportedly struck the right side of the Toyota near the B pillar.
The motorcyclist, identified by authorities as John Thomas Agans, 41, of Dahlonega, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Lumpkin, where he died from his injuries. The driver of the Toyota, identified as James Fondren IV, 50, of Braselton, was treated at the scene by EMS for reported minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. Georgia State Patrol said the Toyota's failure to yield while turning led to the collision, and Fondren faces charges in connection with the wreck, according to the report.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than other vehicle collisions?
A motorcycle offers no frame, airbags, or seatbelt to absorb the impact of a crash, so riders are more exposed to direct impact and often take the full force of a collision.
How do left turns by cars lead to collisions with motorcycles?
A turning driver may misjudge a motorcycle's speed or distance, or simply not see it at all because of its narrower profile, and turn directly into its path as it approaches.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles more reliably?
Checking twice before turning or changing lanes, and specifically scanning for motorcycles rather than only looking for larger vehicles, helps drivers catch them in time.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Crash in West Dahlonega, GA
If you're involved in a motorcycle crash in West Dahlonega, move to safety only if you're able and call for emergency help right away. Even minor-seeming injuries should be checked by a medical professional, since adrenaline can mask pain in the first hours after a wreck. Get the names and contact information of anyone involved or who witnessed the crash, and request a copy of the official report once it's filed.
