How Early Morning Road Conditions Can Increase Pedestrian Risks?
Crashes involving pedestrians during early morning hours often occur in low-light conditions. Around 5:15 a.m., visibility can be limited, especially on rural roads without street lighting. Drivers may also encounter unexpected obstacles, such as parked vehicles or people walking near the roadway.
When a vehicle swerves to avoid a hazard, the sudden change in direction can create new risks. Pedestrians walking along or near the road may have little time to react. In rural areas like parts of White Pigeon Township, shoulders may be narrow or uneven, offering limited space for people on foot.
Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed in dark conditions and remain alert for both vehicles and pedestrians. Wearing reflective clothing and staying as far from travel lanes as possible can also help lower the risk of serious pedestrian accidents.
