WHITTIER, Los Angeles County, Calif., Nov. 6, 2026 — At least one person was hurt in a multi-vehicle rollover crash on Thursday afternoon, November 5, on southbound Interstate 605 at Washington Boulevard in Whittier, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was first reported as a two-vehicle collision in the carpool lane just north of Washington Boulevard, then grew to involve at least three vehicles, including a dark colored SUV, a sedan, and a pickup truck. One vehicle flipped onto its side or roof in the carpool lane, and a caller later told dispatchers the overturned vehicle appeared to be on fire, though a responding unit reported no fire on scene. The Los Angeles County Fire Department was sent to the scene.
CHP units confirmed the crash ultimately involved four vehicles and classified it as a collision with minor injuries. Officers asked for confirmation on the extent of the injuries and whether all occupants were accounted for, and the log does not specify how many people were hurt beyond "at least one." No one was reported killed.
The carpool lane and additional lanes were blocked for a time as crews worked the scene, with the CHP noting coned-off lanes and fire personnel blocking multiple lanes at points during the response. Tow trucks were called to clear at least one of the vehicles, including a Ford F-150 Raptor. By about 2 p.m., all lanes had reopened.
The cause of the crash has not been released. The CHP has not said whether speed or impairment played a role.
We wish the injured a complete and speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes a vehicle to roll over?
Rollovers usually happen when a vehicle's wheels catch a curb, shoulder, or another vehicle and the body tips past its balance point, or when a driver swerves sharply at speed. Taller vehicles such as SUVs and pickups are more prone to tipping than lower, wider cars.
Are rollovers more likely on certain types of roads?
They happen more commonly on freeways and highways where speeds are higher and sudden lane changes or merging conflicts can trigger a loss of control, especially in carpool or HOV lanes with fast-moving traffic.
What injuries are common in rollover crashes?
Occupants can suffer head, neck, and spinal injuries, broken bones, and cuts, particularly if they are thrown against the roof or windows or are not wearing a seatbelt.
What should drivers do after being in a multi-vehicle crash?
Move to a safe location if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and exchange information with other drivers while waiting for law enforcement to arrive and document the scene.
