The incident remains under review by authorities.
Our thoughts remain with those affected as they continue to receive care and recover from their injuries.
How Intersection Movements Near Highway Off-Ramps Affect Crash Risk
Corridors around I-70 and K-177 often carry a mix of highway and local traffic. When an injury crash occurs in Wichita, response crews may adjust traffic flow to keep the area safe and moving.
Off-ramps that end at intersections can present added risk due to stop signs and merging traffic. Drivers exiting a highway may need to quickly judge the speed of oncoming vehicles, which can lead to collisions if timing is misjudged.
Multi-vehicle crashes can occur when one impact sets off a chain reaction. Vehicles that are pushed into other lanes or onto the shoulder can increase the chances of additional contact, especially in areas where traffic is already moving through tight or congested roadways.
