Willington, CT (May 10, 2026) – Two people were injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash early on Saturday morning, May 9, in Willington, according to Connecticut State Police.
The crash occurred around 4 a.m. on Willington Hill Road in the area of Eldredge Road. Troopers said a 25-year-old man from Avon was driving a 2023 Tesla Model Y southbound on a downhill section of the road when the vehicle veered off the roadway.
Investigators reported the Tesla crossed over a rock wall on the right shoulder before striking a tree and rolling over. The vehicle came to rest on its roof.
Both occupants reported injuries. The driver was transported by Life Star to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. A 21-year-old female passenger from Stanhope, New Jersey, was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital.
Emergency units responded to the scene and assisted both occupants before transport. The roadway was temporarily affected while crews cleared the crash site.
The incident remains under investigation, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of both individuals as they recover from their injuries.
Why Early Morning Rollover Crashes on Rural Roads Can Be Severe
Rollover crashes often occur when a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes an object such as a tree, ditch, or embankment. On rural or downhill roads, drivers may have less margin for error, especially in low-light conditions like early morning hours.
When a vehicle rolls over, occupants can experience multiple impacts inside the cabin, increasing the risk of head, neck, and internal injuries. Vehicles that leave the roadway and strike fixed objects like trees often experience severe structural damage. In serious cases, air medical transport is used when rapid access to trauma care is needed. Investigators typically examine road grade, speed, driver control, and roadway departure points to understand how the crash occurred.
