Wilmington, DE (April 24, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash killed one person and left another uninjured on Thursday, April 23, on Powder Mill Road near Alapocas Drive in Wilmington. The collision took place at around 10:20 p.m. and involved two cars traveling southbound on the same road.

After the initial impact, the Dodge continued forward, crossed into the northbound lanes, and crashed head-on into a tree.
The driver of the Dodge, a 26-year-old man from Wilmington, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of his family. The driver of the Saturn, a 27-year-old man also from Wilmington, was not hurt.
The road was closed for an extended period while the scene was processed and cleared.
The incident remains under review by authorities. Our sincere condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
What Factors Are Commonly Linked to High-Speed Fatal Crashes in Delaware?
High-speed crashes are among the most deadly types of collisions on Delaware roads. When a vehicle is traveling well above the speed limit, the force of impact increases dramatically, leaving little chance for safety systems to protect those involved. Seatbelts are one of the most effective tools for surviving a crash, and their absence significantly raises the risk of a fatal outcome.
Nighttime driving adds another layer of risk, as reduced visibility can limit a driver’s ability to react in time. Roads in residential and suburban areas of Wilmington are not designed to handle vehicles moving at extreme speeds. When those conditions combine, the results are often tragic.
