Winston-Salem, NC (January 8, 2026) – A man was killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a tractor-trailer while riding a bicycle in the 600 block of Akron Dr. The collision occurred around 12:10 p.m., drawing a response from Winston-Salem police and emergency medical teams.

Authorities say 75-year-old Thomas Griffith Turnbull was riding his bicycle with the flow of traffic when he was struck by a 2015 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling in the same direction. Tragically, Turnbull was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The driver of the truck remained at the location and cooperated with law enforcement. No injuries were reported to the truck driver, and police have not announced any charges at this time. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
