Why Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks Often Lead to Road Closures
Crashes involving semi-trucks can block major roadways due to the vehicles’ size and the potential for debris. Even a single collision may require multiple lanes to be shut down.
Large trucks can also carry heavy loads, which may spill onto the roadway during a crash. This can increase cleanup time and create hazards for other drivers.
Emergency crews often need additional time to safely remove damaged vehicles and ensure the roadway is clear. As a result, closures can last for several hours before traffic returns to normal.
