New London, MO (June 30, 2026) – A woman was flown to a St. Louis hospital after a two-vehicle collision led to a rollover along Highway 61 north of New London on Sunday evening, June 28.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, one vehicle changed lanes and struck another traveling on the highway. After the contact, the first vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Emergency units arrived and assisted those involved.
A female passenger in the overturned vehicle was airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for treatment. The driver of that vehicle was also involved, and both occupants were reported to have been wearing seat belts at the time. The driver of the second vehicle went to Hannibal Regional Hospital by private vehicle. The people involved have not been publicly identified. The cause of the crash remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.
We hope those receiving medical care make a full and speedy recovery.
Why Seat Belt Use Can Reduce Injuries in Rollover Crashes
Rollover crashes can expose vehicle occupants to sudden changes in direction and force, making seat belt use especially valuable. A properly worn seat belt helps keep people in their seats, reducing the chance of being thrown around inside the vehicle or ejected during an overturn.
After a rollover, medical evaluations usually focus on injuries to the head, neck, chest, and spine because these can occur even when a person appears alert. The extent of harm may not always be immediately clear, so continued observation and follow-up care are sometimes recommended. Vehicle damage, roadway conditions, and the sequence of movements before the rollover are also commonly reviewed to better understand how the crash unfolded.
