Rockingham County, VA (August 30, 2026) – Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal accident on Coopers Mountain Road that left a woman dead and two others injured on Friday morning, August 28. The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m.
A 2006 Jeep Liberty was traveling north on Coopers Mountain Road when it crossed the center of the roadway. The Jeep then struck a southbound 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Liberty’s driver, 28-year-old Danielle Smith of Dayton, suffered serious injuries and later died at a hospital.
An infant passenger in the Liberty did not appear to have injuries but was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Grand Cherokee also suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. The crash remains under investigation. We extend our sincere condolences to Danielle Smith’s loved ones and hope for healing for those who were injured.
