El Paso, TX (July 10, 2026) – A woman in her 50s lost her life after an apartment fire late on Wednesday night at the Johnson Apartments in central El Paso.
The fire was reported at approximately 11 p.m. and was extinguished within about 30 minutes. Investigators said the flames began in one apartment before spreading to a neighboring unit. One resident was displaced, while the woman was found dead inside the complex.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Earlier that same day, another fire involving a vehicle parked outside the apartment complex was reported. Investigators are working to determine whether the two fires are connected, but no link has been confirmed.
Residents described the fire as spreading rapidly, with smoke quickly giving way to flames. By Thursday morning, workers were boarding up the damaged apartments while smoke odors remained throughout the property. One resident said the apartment where the fire began contained electrical equipment serving the complex, though investigators have not identified a cause.
