Continental, OH (August 29, 2026) – A Thursday afternoon collision on SR 15 in Highland Township claimed the life of a 74-year-old woman after her Jeep rear-ended a dump truck around 12:40 p.m. The accident happened on August 27.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Judith Knowles of Continental was driving a black Jeep northbound when she struck the rear of a northbound dump truck. The dump truck was driven by a 37-year-old Mount Morris man. Knowles was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dump truck driver did not suffer substantial injuries. Both vehicles remained in the northbound lanes, and SR 15 was closed for about two hours. The incident remains under investigation as officials continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision. Our deepest condolences go to Judith Knowles’s family and loved ones.

What Drivers Should Know About Rear-End Collisions

Rear-end collisions can happen when a following vehicle does not stop before reaching slower or stopped traffic. Maintaining a safe following distance gives drivers more time to react when traffic changes ahead.

Large trucks can require more space to stop because of their size and weight. Drivers following trucks should leave enough room to respond if the truck slows or stops suddenly.

Distractions, poor visibility, and changing traffic conditions can also affect a driver’s ability to respond. Staying focused on the road and adjusting speed to match conditions can help reduce the risk of a rear-end accident.
