Why Serious Leg Injuries Are Common in Vehicle Collisions
Leg injuries are frequently reported in two-vehicle crashes because the lower body is often closest to the point of impact inside a vehicle. Sudden force during a collision can result in fractures, soft tissue damage, or joint injuries.
The severity of injuries can vary depending on speed, angle of impact, and whether safety features are able to reduce movement inside the vehicle. Even when airbags and seatbelts are used, the legs and feet may still absorb significant force.
When fractures are suspected, rapid transport to a trauma center is often required to ensure proper treatment. In some cases, medical helicopters are used when time or distance makes ground transport less practical.
