Lake Worth, FL (May 26, 2026) – A 52-year-old Lake Worth Beach woman lost her life Sunday morning, May 24, after a two-vehicle crash in the 3100 block of Lantana Road near Lantana Airport.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal collision happened around 11:05 a.m. Investigators said Marbelia Espinoza was driving a 2014 Nissan Sentra westbound on Lantana Road when she attempted to make a left turn onto an access road. During the turn, her car entered the path of an eastbound 2020 BMW 330i operated by a 20-year-old Lake Worth woman.
The BMW struck the passenger side of the Nissan, sending both vehicles into a grassy section beside the roadway. Espinoza, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The BMW driver and a 19-year-old West Palm Beach man riding as a passenger received minor injuries. Investigators stated alcohol and drugs were not listed as factors in the wreck report.
Detectives continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the deadly roadway crash. We share our sincere sympathies with the family and friends of Marbelia Espinoza during this difficult time.
Why Left Turns Often Lead to Serious Roadway Crashes
Left-turn roadway accidents are among the most common types of traffic collisions at intersections and access roads. Drivers turning across traffic must judge both the speed and distance of approaching vehicles, which can become difficult on busy roads with multiple lanes.
These crashes frequently involve side impacts, which may leave occupants with less protection than front or rear impacts. Traffic speed, visibility, roadway design, and timing during a turn are often reviewed when determining how these collisions occur. Seatbelt use can also influence the seriousness of injuries during side-impact crashes. Access roads near airports, shopping centers, and commercial properties may experience heavier turning traffic throughout the day, increasing the possibility of conflicts between vehicles traveling in opposite directions.
