Boone, IA (July 30, 2026) – A 71-year-old Boone woman was killed, and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning, July 28, on U.S. Highway 30 near Boone.
The collision occurred shortly after 11 a.m., prompting a large response from emergency crews. According to officials, traffic on U.S. Highway 30 was reduced to one lane in each direction while first responders worked at the scene.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said a medical helicopter was dispatched, and westbound traffic was temporarily stopped to allow the aircraft to land.
The Iowa State Patrol said the crash happened when one of the vehicles failed to stop for through traffic, resulting in a collision.
Authorities identified the woman who died as 71-year-old Barbara Johnson of Boone. Two other occupants traveling in the same vehicle were injured. Their conditions have not been released. The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the crash, and it remains unclear whether any charges will be filed.
