What Happens After a Head-on Highway Collision?
Head-on roadway collisions often result in serious damage because both vehicles are moving toward each other at the time of impact. After this type of wreck, medical teams usually evaluate everyone involved for injuries that may not be immediately apparent. Chest trauma, broken bones, and head injuries are common concerns, even when a person is awake and speaking afterward.
Road conditions, lighting, vehicle speed, and lane positioning are also commonly reviewed after a head-on accident. Damage patterns on both vehicles can help explain how the vehicles came together and where contact first occurred. In some cases, nearby surveillance footage or witness statements may provide added detail. Traffic closures are also common during cleanup because damaged vehicles and debris can block multiple lanes for an extended period.
