What Investigators Examine in Cross-Centerline Head-on Crashes
Head-on collisions are among the most severe types of roadway crashes because the combined force of both vehicles is concentrated at the point of impact. When a vehicle crosses the centerline, investigators work to determine the cause of the lane departure.
Reconstruction teams typically analyze roadway evidence, vehicle damage, tire marks, driver statements, and environmental conditions. They may also review whether distraction, fatigue, impairment, a medical event, or mechanical issues contributed to the crash. These findings help establish the sequence of events and identify the factors that led to the collision.
