What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed Following a Fatal Hit-and-Run?
Fatal hit-and-run cases usually involve a detailed review of physical evidence left behind on the roadway. Investigators may examine vehicle debris, tire marks, surveillance footage, and witness statements to help identify the driver and establish a timeline of what occurred.
In many cases, nearby businesses, traffic cameras, and residential security systems can provide valuable information. Investigators also review lighting conditions, weather, visibility, and roadway design to better understand the circumstances surrounding the collision. Medical findings and damage patterns may further assist in determining how the person was struck and the direction the vehicle was traveling.
Because hit-and-run cases involve a driver leaving before information can be exchanged, gathering evidence from multiple sources is often necessary to develop a complete picture of what happened.
