What Details Are Often Reviewed After Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Runs?
Fatal pedestrian hit-and-runs often involve a careful review of crosswalk use, traffic signals, and vehicle movement. When a person is struck while crossing a road, investigators may look at whether the pedestrian had the right of way and how nearby drivers were moving.
Surveillance video can be especially useful in these cases. Cameras may show the vehicle’s color, direction of travel, or path before and after contact. Witness statements can also help confirm whether a traffic light was ignored or whether speed appeared to be a factor.
Medical findings, roadway marks, and debris may help explain the severity of the crash. These details can also support efforts to identify the vehicle and driver.
