Boone County, MO (June 23, 2026) – A 32-year-old Moberly woman was seriously injured on Sunday evening, June 21, after an accident on northbound U.S. 63. The crash happened at 6:03 p.m. south of Missouri 763 in Boone County.

According to the report, the woman was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound when an unknown vehicle struck the rear of her car. The Cobalt then veered off to the right and hit a tree.

The woman was wearing a safety device and was taken by ambulance to University Hospital with serious injuries. Her car was totaled and removed from the roadway.

The unknown vehicle had moderate damage and was driven away from the scene. It had not been identified in the initial report on the collision.

Investigators continue working to locate the driver and determine the full sequence of events. We are keeping the injured woman in our thoughts and hope she recovers steadily.

Why Rear-End Hit-and-Run Crashes Can Leave Key Questions

Rear-end crashes can cause serious harm when the force pushes a car off the road. A driver may lose control quickly, especially if the vehicle is struck from behind at highway speed. Leaving the pavement can add danger when trees, ditches, or signs are nearby.

Hit-and-run cases can be harder to document at first. Reports may list the known vehicle, the injured person, and the direction of travel before more facts are found.

Damage patterns can help show how the vehicles made contact. Witness statements, nearby cameras, and debris left behind may also provide useful details. When the other driver leaves, investigators often rely on these clues to identify the vehicle and explain what happened before the car went off the road.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.

Focus on your recovery and
let trusted professionals handle the rest
