Atchison County, MO (June 17, 2026) – Two women were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 46 at Route Y, approximately 10 miles east of Fairfax, on Monday afternoon, June 15. Emergency units responded to the collision at about 12:45 p.m.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 driven by a 19-year-old Maryville man was traveling eastbound on Highway 46 when it crossed the center line into the westbound lane. The rear driver’s side of the Chevrolet struck the driver’s side of a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country driven by a 47-year-old woman from Skidmore.
Following the impact, the Chrysler traveled off the north side of the roadway before returning to the highway and coming to rest, blocking the westbound lane. The Chevrolet also came to rest on the roadway. The Chrysler driver and a 23-year-old female passenger both sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Mosaic Life Care in Maryville for treatment. We hope those injured recover fully and quickly.
How Center-Line Crossing Crashes Are Investigated
Crashes involving a vehicle crossing the center line require investigators to closely examine lane positions and vehicle paths before impact. Roadway evidence, including tire marks and debris, can help determine where the collision occurred and how each vehicle was traveling.
Investigators may also review driver statements, roadway conditions, and vehicle damage patterns. These details help establish whether factors such as distraction, medical issues, weather, or other circumstances contributed to the vehicle leaving its lane. Understanding how the vehicles interacted before the crash is an important part of reconstructing the sequence of events.
