YEMASSEE, Hampton County, SC, Sept. 21, 2026 — A pickup truck driver died Sunday night, September 20, after his vehicle struck the rear of a dump truck on I-95 in Hampton County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The crash happened on I-95 north near the 36.5 mile marker.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a 1985 Western Star dump truck and a 2021 GMC pickup truck were both traveling north on I-95 when the pickup rear-ended the dump truck. The pickup driver died at the scene. He has been identified by the Hampton County Coroner's Office as a 31-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida.
The dump truck driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries, troopers said. His condition has not been released.
The Yemassee Police Department and Hampton County Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and worked to clear the roadway, warning drivers of delays in the area. Highway Patrol is still investigating what led up to the collision, and no cause has been released.
