Berkeley Township, NJ (August 28, 2026) – According to an official report, a dirt bike and pickup truck collided Wednesday afternoon, August 26, near Sherman Avenue and Moorage Avenue, killing an 11-year-old girl. The collision happened around 12:45 p.m.
An 11-year-old boy was operating an electric dirt bike northbound on Sherman Avenue with the girl riding as a passenger. The bike entered the intersection and struck the driver’s side of a westbound Ford F-250 traveling on Moorage Avenue. A preliminary investigation determined that the dirt bike failed to stop at a posted stop sign before entering the intersection.
The girl was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where she later died from her injuries. The boy was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment and was later released. The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, officials said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad. We extend our sincere condolences to the girl’s family and loved ones and wish the injured boy continued recovery.
