Why Traffic Signal Violations at Intersections Can Lead to Severe Motorcycle Crashes
Intersections controlled by traffic signals can become dangerous when a vehicle enters against the right-of-way. Motorcycles are especially vulnerable in these situations because riders have less physical protection during sudden roadway contact.
Investigators frequently review signal timing, driver visibility, and vehicle speed to determine how both vehicles approached the intersection. Damage patterns, debris placement, and witness accounts may also help establish the sequence of movement before the collision occurred.
Motorcycle passengers may face an increased risk of serious harm during crashes, especially when they are not using protective equipment. Busy intersections along highways can also create limited reaction time for drivers attempting to avoid a vehicle entering unexpectedly.
