What Is Examined Following a Head-On Highway Collision?
Head-on crashes are among the most serious types of roadway collisions because the force from two approaching vehicles can be significant. After such a crash, investigators mostly review vehicle positions, roadway markings, weather conditions, visibility, and any available witness statements.
They may also examine whether mechanical problems, driver actions, or traffic conditions contributed to what happened. Data from vehicle systems can sometimes provide information about speed, braking, or steering inputs before contact occurred. In some cases, roadway design and traffic control devices are reviewed as well.
Early reports usually focus on basic facts, including the number of vehicles involved and whether anyone was hurt or killed. As more information becomes available, a clearer picture of the circumstances leading up to the collision can emerge.
