Raymond, ME (June 2, 2026) – Two drivers were hurt following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning, June 2, around 7:30 a.m. on North Raymond Road in Raymond.
Deputies said a Nissan Rogue driven by a Lewiston woman and a Honda Accord driven by a Portland juvenile both attempted to pass a line of traffic in a marked no-passing zone. The Nissan moved into the oncoming lane to pass vehicles, but the Honda was already in the same lane, leading to a collision that caused the Honda to overturn.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. No other occupants were reported in either vehicle. Deputies said the juvenile driver was charged with imprudent speed, while additional charges remain under review. Further details about the crash have not been released. We are thinking of both drivers.
Why Improper Passing Crashes Can Be So Dangerous
Crashes that involve unsafe or illegal passing often occur on two-lane roads where visibility and timing are limited. When drivers attempt to pass in no-passing zones, they may misjudge whether another vehicle is already in the oncoming lane.
These situations can escalate quickly because both vehicles are traveling at speed and have little space to avoid contact. Even a small overlap in lane position can lead to a severe side-impact or rollover, especially if one driver reacts abruptly.
Investigators typically review lane markings, vehicle positions, and roadway conditions to determine how the passing sequence developed. In many cases, early reports focus on immediate injuries and citations while a fuller review is completed later.
