What Is Often Examined Following a Head-On Traffic Crash?
Head-on crashes are among the most severe roadway collisions because both vehicles may be moving toward each other at the time of contact. As a result, investigators usually review a wide range of information to better understand how the crash unfolded.
Common factors include vehicle positions before contact, lane usage, roadway markings, weather conditions, visibility, and any physical evidence left on the pavement. Investigators may also examine vehicle damage patterns and review available witness statements. In some cases, electronic data stored by newer vehicles can provide information about speed, braking, and steering actions before the crash occurred.
Medical findings can also help document the extent of injuries and provide a clearer picture of the forces involved. As additional information becomes available, a more complete understanding of the circumstances surrounding the collision may emerge.
