Burnet County, TX (September 9, 2026) – A man died, and a woman was critically injured after a boat collision on Lake Buchanan on Monday night, September 7, near Garret Island. The vessel operator, identified as 40-year-old Dillard Drake of East Lake, was found dead at the site.
The collision was reported at about 9:45 p.m. A woman who was aboard the boat was critically injured and flown to a nearby hospital. By 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, medical personnel said she was doing better and expected to survive.
The cause of the accident remains unknown. The Texas Game Warden Boat Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the wreck. The investigation is continuing as officials work to determine what led to the fatal collision.
