Las Vegas, NV (August 25, 2026) – A 55-year-old man was killed Sunday afternoon, August 23, near Charleston Blvd and Rancho Dr, according to police.

Vahan Nazarian was walking across Charleston west of S Tonopah Dr shortly before 4 p.m. when two vehicles struck him. He was crossing from the north side toward the south side and was not in a marked crosswalk.

The first collision involved a gray Honda Civic traveling west on Charleston. Nazarian hit the Honda’s right front and fell to the ground. A black BMW traveling behind the Honda swerved to avoid it but ran over the pedestrian.

Emergency units performed life-saving measures, but Nazarian died at the scene. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the wreck.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Nazarian’s family and loved ones.

What Happens After a Pedestrian Accident?

Pedestrian accidents can involve several factors that investigators may review when determining what happened. These can include traffic signals, crosswalk markings, vehicle positions, lighting, weather, and roadway design.

Evidence may include photographs, surveillance footage, vehicle damage, witness accounts, and statements from people involved. The location and direction of travel for each vehicle can also help establish how the collision unfolded.

Pedestrian visibility is another factor often examined. Drivers may have less time to see someone crossing when lighting is poor or when other vehicles block their view. Pedestrians can also face greater risks outside marked crossings, where drivers may not expect someone to be crossing the street. These factors can make pedestrian accidents complex to reconstruct.
