Emmet County, MI (July 23, 2026) – An 8-year-old boy later died after a vehicle left East Robinson Road in McKinley Township on Sunday, June 21, leading to criminal charges against the driver.
According to published reports, Brooke Winowiecki of Petoskey has been charged with second-degree murder and operating while intoxicated, causing death, in connection with the crash. Investigators said the vehicle traveled off East Robinson Road, struck an embankment, became airborne, and then hit a tree.
The driver’s 8-year-old son and 6-year-old child were both inside the vehicle at the time. An obituary confirmed that the 8-year-old later lost his life from injuries linked to the collision. Court records indicate the charges were filed following the investigation into what occurred that day. Additional details about the condition of the younger child were not immediately available.
The investigation remains active as prosecutors continue moving forward with the case.
