Grimes County, TX (August 31, 2026) – A head-on collision on SH 30 near FM 244 left one person dead and two others with suspected serious injuries on August 29.
The driver of a pickup was traveling west on SH 30 when the truck crossed into the eastbound lane. It then struck a 1972 Dodge Polara head-on, leaving the Dodge stopped in the westbound lane. A motorcycle traveling west later hit the Dodge. Charles Keil, 59, of Willis, was driving the Dodge and died at the scene.
The pickup driver was airlifted to Memorial Hermann with suspected serious injuries. The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in Bryan with suspected serious injuries.
SH 30 reopened at 5:50 a.m. after being closed for nearly five hours near FM 244. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
