Livingston, MT (July 23, 2026) – One person died following a fatal roadway collision on I-90 near Livingston on Monday night, July 20, after a vehicle believed to be involved left before anyone could identify it.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed what happened or who has information about the pickup to contact Trooper Patton. Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision had not been released at the time of publication. The cause of the crash continues to be examined as investigators work to gather more information.

Our heartfelt condolences are with the family and friends of the person who lost their life.

Why Witness Information Can Be Critical in Fatal Hit-and-Run Investigations

When a driver leaves after a fatal roadway collision, witness accounts usually become one of the most valuable sources of information. People traveling nearby may remember details such as the color, make, or direction of travel of a vehicle that surveillance cameras did not capture.

Detectives also review physical evidence left on the roadway, including debris, tire marks, and vehicle parts, to help identify those involved. Traffic cameras, nearby business security systems, and dash camera footage can further assist in reconstructing what happened. As more evidence is collected, investigators may develop a clearer timeline and determine how the collision occurred, even when only limited information is available in the early stages.
