Why Pedestrian Crashes on Interstate On-Ramps Can Be Especially Dangerous
Interstate on-ramps are designed to help vehicles merge into fast-moving traffic, leaving drivers with limited time to react to unexpected hazards. Even at lower ramp speeds, visibility can be reduced by darkness, curves, weather, or surrounding traffic, making it harder to see pedestrians.
After a pedestrian is struck on or near a highway entrance ramp, investigators commonly review roadway lighting, traffic patterns, witness statements, vehicle damage, and any available surveillance or dash camera footage. They may also examine whether road signs, lane markings, or other environmental factors influenced what occurred. These findings can help build a clearer picture of the circumstances while providing accurate information about how the fatal encounter unfolded.
